This is every run. I went for a different camera angle this time from the usual out the window. My 4th was my fastest. Right now I think my car is faster than I am, and I need more grip...

Work on getting closer to the cones, steer earlier. What tires are you running?

Running my street tires, Nitto Invo. I need to get some dedicated rubber on my stock wheels, but that’s not happening this season...
I just enjoyed how close I got to that cone in the first run.. :P

It’s been forever since I autocrossed on true street tires. RE-71Rs are expensive but so good, though even they struggle to put down the GTs power

One of the club BOD came by just before my heat and asked what I did to end up in SM. The moment he heard “blow off valve replacement” he said “ahh, yeah. It’s not right, but that bumps you up every time.”
When I had the passenger, he loved the sound of it, and I have to say, so do I.

I really dont understand why RE71Rs are considered 200TW street tires. Bridgestone definitely made a 100-150 TW tire and then just stamped “200" on the side because they could and now roll in the dough. I run slicks because they are cheaper but they pretty much have comparable grip, just heat up differently.

I just started using Track Addict on an old android phone and it was pretty neat to pair that with an OBDII reader to get all sorts of data from my runs on Sunday. Next step is to set that phone up as a camera and then output everything to Race Render and make neat videos. Best part is that its all free!
Found it interesting that the app was reporting my top speed in second gear as 52 mph. That just seems abysmally slow, no wonder why I was bouncing off the rev limiter. Got it up to 54 once I tried using 3rd there and shaved a second off my time.

Haha I saw my notification of your comment and all it showed was “I really don’t understand why RE71Rs are considered 200TW” and I was ready to say “because the mold has 200TW in it”.

I think the rules need a serious revamp to accommodate turbo cars fairly.
ST classes will allow boost tunes next year, that’s progress. But the fact that having a part that basically just adds noise bump you into a class you aren’t competitive in sucks.

Ehh the rules will never work out in my favor unless I actually build to a class anyways. Might as well just show up with what you got and just compete against yourself and have fun. I completely ignore PAX and just have fun.

Aren’t you in an NB Miata? Those dominate ES.
The issue with autocross is you either have the right car for a class and leave it stock or go crazy with it to be competitive in a modified class. I’ve become a competitive driver locally, so I’m shooting for top times, but there’s nothing wrong with having fun.

The problem is my 6 speed transmission pretty much ruins most autocross courses aside from the SUPER tight ones. I think its more fun but I have no aspirations of winning any class because of it. And besides I cant stand stock Miata body roll, its like being on a boat. Mild coilovers are perfect to fix that and then its all down the drain from there in either STR or CSP (or SSM/XP with forced induction).
Its funny though, I would never want to bother with a stock class prepped Miata for street driving. I made most of my mods to make street driving more enjoyable. The only way I would consider stock springs and other ES legal stuff would be for an autox only car.

I feel ya. I think the EB Mustang will be capable of dominating DS this year, and I could have probably been reasonably competitive in it if I left it stock but that’s no fun for the street.

If you play with tuning, you end up in street prepared right? I guess ESP for mustangs? I dont quite understand the SP classing letters lol.

I think so, not sure which letter. DSP probably? I’d have to look at the rulebook.
Next year ST classes will allow boost changes, so the EB could run STU or STP with a boost tune. Someone who used to be local ran an STU WRX and it was very heavily modified, so that would go far beyond what I’d really want for the street.
I’m happy with the GT. While I’m sure I’ll eventually lust for more power, I don’t think it needs it and can stay competitive in FS for now. I’m sure I’ll be humbled at nationals and stop caring about competition soon enough.

Oooo that must be exciting, going to nationals! That seems a little too serious for me but I bet its exciting just seeing some of the amazing drivers there. I am always seriously impressed by the driver skill that some people in local regions have. I cannot even imagine what that turns into on the national level.

I’ve heard it’s a lot of fun even if you aren’t any good. So many drivers in so many cars in all the classes, I’m looking forward to just seeing that.

If only it werent so far. No way in hell would I drive there and while my car is light, i imagine its too much for overweight baggage on an airplane lol.

Yeah, I wouldn’t drive super far either. It’s only a few hours away for me.
